Softball falls to Middlebury in NESCAC West Division series finale

Tansky '25, Quinn '25 and Dunn '22 with two hits each for the Continentals

Middlebury College scored in each of the first three innings and the Panthers posted a 10-5 NESCAC West Division win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Continentals (14-9, 2-5 NESCAC West) scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and added single runs in the sixth and seventh. The Continentals play two more divisional games at Wesleyan University on Sunday, April 24 starting at 1 p.m.

Middlebury (13-8, 5-4) recorded six extra-base hits. The Panthers hit a solo home run in the first inning and a three-run homer in the second, and scored two runs in the third for a 6-0 lead. Middlebury added four insurance runs in the sixth inning. The teams split their doubleheader on Friday, so the Panthers won the series by taking two out of three games.

Emma Tansky '25, Charlie Quinn '25 and Vicky Dunn '22 finished with two hits each for Hamilton. Kiana Arcayena '22 went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Tansky leads the team with a .444 batting average and 32 hits.

In the bottom of the third, Ella Heftved '25 hit a one-out single to left field and scored on Arcayena's second triple this season. Arcayena trotted home on a double to left center by Shelby McVey '22, her team-high sixth. McVey went to third base on a fly out to right and scored on Quinn's single up the middle.

Dunn led off the sixth with her third double and eventually scored on a ground ball to second base by Tansky. Arcayena started the seventh inning with a walk but was erased on a fielder's choice. Natalie Beebe '24 also hit into a fielder's choice but both runners were safe on an infield error. Quinn plated pinch-runner Taylor Santulli '25 with a single down the right field line that rounded out the scoring. The run was Santulli's first with the Continentals. Hamilton left 10 runners on base.

The Continentals honored Dunn, Arcayena and McVey with a short Senior Day ceremony before the game.
