Hamilton College's
Olivia Seymour '22 scored four goals, including the game-winner with three seconds left in the sudden-victory overtime period, and lifted the Continentals to an 8-7 NESCAC win against the Trinity College Bantams at Hamilton's Steuben Field on a cool and rainy Saturday afternoon.
Â
The nationally ranked No. 13 Continentals (6-3, 4-3 NESCAC) snapped their three-game losing skid with one of their most dramatic victories in recent memory. Hamilton led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter and 4-3 at the half. The Continentals play another conference game at 9-3 Wesleyan University on Wednesday, April 20 at 5 p.m.
Â
The Continentals have won three of the last four meetings with Trinity. All three wins have come at home and all three have been by a goal.
Â
The nationally ranked No. 16 Bantams (7-5, 4-4) were awarded a free-position attempt with 29 seconds left, but
Kaitlin Reed '24 made the save – the only one she recorded in 20-plus minutes in goal. Hamilton escaped its defensive zone and eventually
Eva Abel '22 received the ball and sprinted into the Continentals' offensive zone. Abel passed to Seymour cutting towards her on the right side. Seymour immediately turned and fired a shot from about five yards away near the right edge of the fan. The ball settled into the net on the top-left side of the goal and touched off a wild celebration.
Â
Abel ended up with five points on three goals and two assists, and
Clarissa Hurley '23 added two helpers.
Meghan Lane '24 won six draws, scooped up four ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Maeve Luparello '23 stopped four shots in the first half and
Casey Fiore '24 turned away three shots in the third quarter.
Â
Christine Taylor paced Trinity with two goals and two assists, and Lily Ives contributed a goal and three assists. Elle Fair registered two goals, an assist and three caused turnovers. Emma Alpaugh recorded four draws controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Anna Costello had seven of the Bantams' 17 caused turnovers. Gabriella Young made five saves and played the entire game in goal.
Â
Hamilton's only other shot of the extra period was a hurried attempt by Hurley that sailed wide just before the 90-second possession clock expired. The Continentals were up a player for most of the last 2:12 of the fourth quarter when a Trinity player was sent off with a yellow card. Hamilton managed just one shot that was high while the Continentals had the advantage.
Â
Hamilton owned a 3-0 lead with 4:58 left in the first quarter on a goal by
Olivia Chiota '24 and two by Abel. The Bantams came back with three in a row and tied the score with 7:08 remaining in the second quarter. Seymour tallied her first of the day with 2:27 to go before the half.
Â
Taylor gave Trinity its first lead at 5-4 with 8:40 left in the third quarter and, after Seymour tied the score with 3:32 remaining, Samantha Booma put the Bantams back in front 1:25 into the fourth. Goals by Abel and Seymour pushed the Continentals back in front at 7-6 with 5:39 to go before Lilianna Khosrowshahi forged the fifth tie with 3:15 left. Abel leads Hamilton with 22 goals and Seymour has a team-high 32 points.
