The Hamilton College Continentals were swept by the Amherst College Mammoths in a NESCAC West Division doubleheader at Hamilton's Loop Road Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

After losing the series opener on Friday, the Mammoths (12-5, 4-2 NESCAC West) scored 20 runs on 20 hits on Saturday. Amherst came from behind for a 7-5 win in Game 1 and never trailed in the nightcap -- a 13-3 victory that was stopped after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Hamilton (12-5, 1-2) aims to bounce back on Sunday, April 10 when they travel to Middletown, Connecticut for another NESCAC West Division contest against Wesleyan University at 12:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for April 1.

Emma Tansky '25 led the Continentals' offense with three hits, and
Ella Heftved '25 drove in three runs.
Katlynn McGivney '23, Kiana Arcayena '22, Shelby McVey '22, Alessandra Priante '24 and
Samantha Smith '23 added one single each.

Amherst jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first. Megan Taketa drew a walk and stole second, and Dani Torres Werra reached third base on a fielding error that plated Taketa. America Rangel drove in Torres Werra on a shot to left field.

Hamilton quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half. McGivney led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on Tansky's infield single to shortstop. Heftved reached on a fielder's choice and, with two outs and a pair of runners on base, McVey forced an infield error that scored Tansky and Heftved.

The Continentals added three runs to the board in the second inning.
Charlie Quinn '25 reached first on a throwing error by the second baseman and advanced to second after Smith drew a walk.
Vicky Dunn '22 forced Torres-Werra's second consecutive walk and loaded the bases. With two out Heftved cleared the bases on a drive to the right-center field gap for her second triple of the season and a 5-2 lead.

The Mammoths took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings, and added an insurance run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. Hamilton had runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings but Talia Bloxham, who didn't allow an earned run, escaped both jams.

Natalie Beebe '24 pitched four innings of effective relief, allowing only one run on one hit and fanning three. Beebe leads the Continentals pitching staff with 55 strikeouts in 58.1 innings.

Game 2
Amherst scored five runs in the second innings, six in the third and two in the fifth. Sadie Pool and Torres Werra led the offensive onslaught with two-run homers. Audrey Orlowski picked up her fourth win in the circle, striking out three in her 3.1 innings.

The Continentals were held scoreless until the fourth inning when they scored three runs on four hits. Heftved started the inning with a single to left, Quinn followed with a single to right and Smith loaded the bases on a single through the left side. McVey entered the game as a pinch hitter and did not disappoint with a double to the fence in left center that cleared the bases.
