Men's lacrosse rolls to non-conference win over Hartwick

Continentals scored the first seven goals and only allowed three

The Hamilton College Continentals scored the first seven goals and posted a 12-3 non-conference win against the Hartwick College Hawks at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Eleven different players scored a goal for the Continentals, and they had assists on 10 of their 12 goals. Hamilton, which is 2-2 overall, travels to Connecticut College for a NESCAC game on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
 
Hartwick (2-2 overall), which is a member of the Empire 8 Conference, scored their first goal with 3:55 left in the second quarter and added man-up goals in the third and fourth quarters. Dylan Ferguson had a goal and two assists, and Kainan Francis-Thompson added a goal and an assist. Cooper Francis and Francis-Thompson picked up three ground balls apiece, and Kyle McKee made 20 saves.
 
Britt Defeo '22 led the offense with three points on a goal and two helpers. Zach Perotto '24 scored two goals and Tim Murray '24 dished out two assists. Rowan Brumbaugh '23, Ryan Howard '25, Tim Sommer '22 and Nathanial Field '24 contributed a goal and an assist each.
 
The Continentals won 15 of 19 faceoffs. Michael Scoleri '24 led that effort by winning all nine of his faceoffs and scooping up seven ground balls. Will Heher '25 registered four ground balls and Jayme Wilde '25 caused two turnovers. Seamus Fagan '23 stopped 12 shots and allowed just two goals in nearly 52 minutes in goal, and Jack Fried '25 turned away one shot in eight-plus minutes in his first collegiate appearance.
 
Hamilton led 5-0 after the first quarter, 7-1 at the half and 9-2 after three quarters. The Continentals held a 43-30 shot advantage, including 15-6 in the opening 15 minutes, and finished with 39 ground balls to the Hawks' 20. Hamilton was successful on 26 of 27 clear attempts. The Continentals have won the last nine meetings with Hartwick.
