Bowdoin College's Donal Mullane posted five goals and an assist in the Polar Bears' 15-14 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Monday afternoon.

The Continentals (1-2, 0-2 NESCAC) nearly rallied from six goals down early in the third period and down four with less than two minutes left. Hamilton hosts Hartwick College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m.

Bowdoin (3-0, 2-0) received votes in this week's Division III Top 20 coaches poll. This game was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 12, but was postponed due to a late-season snowstorm in the Northeast.

Tim Sommer '22 and
Britt Defeo '22 recorded three goals and an assist apiece for the Continentals.
Rowan Brumbaugh '23 chipped in two goals and an assist, and
Christian Byrne '24 added a goal and two helpers.
Charlie Ratner '23 registered a goal and an assist.

Hamilton's
Michael Scoleri '24 won 19 of 32 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls. Defeo picked up five and Brumbaugh,
Marc Welch '22 and
Johnny Oblak '24 had four each.
Seamus Fagan '23 made 12 saves including four in the fourth quarter.

Will Byrne helped pace the Polar Bears offense with four goals and two assists, and Jason Lach found the back of the net three times. Ethan Barnard and Zack Goorno collected five ground balls apiece, and Noah Robb caused three turnovers. Robert Hobbs stopped 13 shots.

Bowdoin scored the first four goals and never trailed. The Polar Bears led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter, 12-7 at halftime and 13-10 after three quarters. Lach's third goal of the day gave Bowdoin a 13-7 advantage 52 seconds into the second half. A man-down goal by Liam Ford made it 15-11 with 3:18 remaining in the fourth quarter and proved to be the difference.

The Continentals never gave up hope as they scored seven of the last nine goals including three in the final 75 seconds. Ratner's goal from the edge of the crease on the left side made it 15-12 with 1:14 to go. Brumbaugh picked up a loose ball a couple yards outside the crease, turned and fired the ball past Hobbs with 51.6 seconds left. After a Bowdoin turnover deep in its defensive zone, Sommer spun to get away from his defender and scored on a low shot from eight yards out on the left wing with 16.7 seconds remaining.

The teams fought for the ensuing faceoff for six seconds before Barnard, who won 12, secured the loose ball near midfield and the Polar Bears ran out the final few seconds.

Hamilton scored on 4 of 8 extra-man opportunities, were successful on 19 of 20 clear attempts and had a 41-28 advantage in ground balls.
