Women's basketball loses lead late at No. 8 Baldwin Wallace

Lambo '26 led the Continentals with season-high 28 points as push for sixth straight win comes up short

Baldwin Wallace University scored 12 straight points in the fourth quarter and the Yellow Jackets rallied for a 72-65 win against the Hamilton College Continentals in the championship game of the 2022 Baldwin Wallace Invitational at Ursprung Gymnasium on Friday afternoon.
 
Season Update
Hamilton's win streak ended at five games as the Continentals lost for just the second time in nine games. The nationally ranked No. 8 Yellow Jackets, who are members of the Ohio Athletic Conference, remained undefeated at 11-0.
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton held a one-point edge at 51-50 after three quarters and started the fourth with an 8-2 spurt. Taylor Lambo '26 made two free throws and added a jumper in the paint after a steal and later an assist by Emily Hall '24. Sylvie Sonneman drained a pair of free throws for Baldwin Wallace before Lambo converted layups on consecutive offensive possessions for a 59-52 lead with 7:38 left.
  • The Continentals managed just one field goal during the last seven-plus minutes while the Yellow Jackets went on an 18-2 run that turned a seven-point deficit into a 70-61 lead with 19 seconds remaining.
  • Hamilton led 18-15 after one quarter and held onto its advantage throughout the second. Hall gave the Continentals their largest lead of 12 points at 33-21 after a steal and layup with 4:04 to go.
  • Baldwin Wallace ended the half with an 11-1 run and trailed by just two points at 34-32 at the break.
  • Hamilton scored the first five points of the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Althea Hill '26 and a fast-break layup by Hall after she grabbed a defensive rebound and took it the length of the floor.
  • The Yellow Jackets rallied and there were four lead changes and two ties during the last seven minutes of the third.
 
Notes
  • Lambo poured in a season-high 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She scored all 14 of the Continentals' points in the fourth quarter.
  • Hall filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven boards, four assists and three steals as she played all 40 minutes.
  • Lambo and Hall represented Hamilton on the all-tournament team.
  • Emma Sehring '23 scored nine points.
  • Maria Mercado Rengel '24 tied a career-best with two blocked shots for the second straight game.
  • Bella Vaillant's double-double led Baldwin Wallace as she finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Megan Hensel dropped in 11 points.
  • Kira Philpot chipped in 11 points and three blocked shots off the bench.
  • The Continentals were 7 of 10 from the floor in the second quarter and ended up shooting 42.6 percent for the game.
  • The teams were whistled for 45 fouls and attempted 60 free throws. Hamilton went 9-for-9 at the charity stripe in the opening quarter, and the Yellow Jackets went 13-for-14 in the fourth.
  • The Continentals scored 16 points off 17 Baldwin Wallace turnovers.
