Women’s basketball rolls past Vassar, Sehring ’23 is tourney MVP

Hall ’24 named to all-tournament team as Continentals win both games

Hamilton College's Emma Sehring '23 matched her career best with 16 points as the Continentals defeated the Vassar College Brewers 71-60 for their second consecutive win in Vassar's Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament at Athletics and Fitness Center on Saturday afternoon. 
 
How It Happened
  • The Continentals scored the first seven points and led the whole way. Emily Hall '24, Sehring and Althea Hill '26 scored during the run. 
  • Hamilton built a six-point lead at 21-15 after Hill drained a 3-pointer and Olivia Davis '23 sunk a free throw with 2:30 remaining. 
  • Vassar had the last bucket in the first quarter on a three-ball that made it a one-possession game. 
  • Courtney Shay '24 and Hill started the second quarter with three consecutive 3-pointers and extended the Continentals' lead to 12 at 30-18.
  • The Brewers chipped away at Hamilton's lead and eventually cut it to five points at 36-31 at the break. 
  • Hamilton started the third quarter with a 6-0 burst and claimed a 42-31 lead. 
  • Vassar worked their way back within three at 47-44 before Hamilton closed out the quarter with an 11-3 spurt powered by a 3-ball by Hill, back-to-back layups by Hall, and a Taylor Lambo '26 classic and-1 play. 
  • The Continentals stretched their lead to 17 at 64-47 on back-to-back 3-pointers by Hill and Sophie Thompson '24. 
  • Hamilton held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. 
  • The Continentals shot the ball well at an efficient 51 percent (26-51). 
  • Hamilton held a 42-30 edge on the boards.
  • The Brewers shot 36.9 percent from the field (24-65) and was just 4-for-8 at the line. 
  • Vassar scored 20 bench points to Hamilton's 15.  
Notes
  • Hamilton improved to 2-0.
  • Vassar moved to 1-2 overall. 
  • This is the first time Hamilton and Vassar have met since both teams were members of the Liberty League. 
  • Sehring, who was named the tournament's most valuable player, was one rebound away from a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.
  • Hill dropped in 15 points on 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc (5-10). 
  • Hall chipped in 14 points and a team-high four assists, and made the all-tournament team. 
  • Shay reached double figures in scoring for the second time in her career with 10 points. 
  • Lambo went a perfect 5-for-5 at the line and tallied nine points and eight rebounds.
  • Alex Lee paced the Brewers with 16 points, six boards and three assists. 
  • Vassar's Sierra McDermed and Maddie Ahearn scored nine apiece. 
  • Naiya Kurnik netted eight points while Julia Harvey and Bella Tawney contributed six each. 
Next Game
  • Hamilton will travel to 0-3 Hartwick College on Friday, Nov. 18 for a non-conference matchup at 5 p.m.
