Women’s basketball edged in overtime, Hill '26 drops 20 points

Five Continentals scored in double digits

SUNY Cortland's Emily Morano poured in 19 points and the Red Dragons prevailed 77-76 in overtime against the Hamilton College Continentals in non-conference action at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon.
 
How It Happened
  • In overtime, the Continentals' Althea Hill '26 sparked a 6-2 run with two 3-pointers for a 72-68 lead. 
  • The Red Dragons scored the next seven points and went up 75-72 with 38 seconds left. 
  • Emma Sehring '23 responded with a jumper from the corner, but Morano hit a pair of free throws and restored the three-point lead with 15 seconds remaining. 
  • Sehring worked the paint for a layup that cut Cortland's advantage to one point with 11 seconds to go. 
  • The Red Dragons missed two free throws but grabbed the offensive rebound and called a timeout. The Continentals were forced to foul with eight seconds left and Cortland again missed both free throws. This time Sehring secured the rebound and Courtney Shay '24 put up a shot from beyond the arc that danced around the rim but failed to fall. 
  • Hill got it started for Hamilton less than a minute into the first quarter with her first 3-pointer. 
  • The Continentals ended the quarter with a 10-0 run and led 20-7. Emily Hall '24 scored five of those 10 points.  
  • Hamilton stretched its lead to 14 at 27-13 with 5:07 remaining in the second quarter.
  • The Red Dragons chipped away at the lead with a 14-5 run that cut their deficit to five points at 32-27 at the break. 
  • Cortland tied the score at 36-36 on a jumper by Sarah Tully with 6:52 left in the third quarter. 
  • Hamilton used an 11-4 streak that put it back on top 47-40 with 1:44 to go. 
  • The Red Dragons quickly responded with an 8-1 spurt and evened the score at 48-48 at the end of the third. 
  • Cortland took its first lead on a 3-ball by Brooke Tillotson 37 seconds into the fourth quarter. 
  • The Red Dragons extended their lead to a game-high seven points at 56-49 with 8:25 remaining. 
  • Hamilton's Taylor Lambo '26 ignited a comeback with a layup and a jumper. Sehring and Hall added to it with layups that cut its deficit to a single point at 58-57.  
  • Lambo tied the score with a free throw, but Cortland scored the next four points and went up 62-58 with four minutes left. 
  • Hamilton responded with back-to-back baskets by Hall and Lambo for a 62-62 deadlock. 
  • Shay forced another tie with a jumper in the paint and Lambo put the Continentals ahead on a layup with 44 seconds left, but Morano found hope for the Red Dragons with a driving layup that tied the score at 66-66 with 25 seconds remaining.
  • The Continentals had a shot for the win but came up short and the teams went to overtime.
  • The Continentals shot 40.3 from the floor (31-77) and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc (5-11).
  • Hamilton held a 47-42 advantage on the glass.
  • The Continentals registered 17 points off 15 turnovers. 
  • The Red Dragons shot 43.5 percent from the floor (30-69) and 70 percent at the charity stripe (14-20). 
  • The contest featured eight ties and five lead changes.  
Notes
  • Hamilton moved to 2-1 overall. 
  • SUNY Cortland (2-1) received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. 
  • Hill was 4 of 6 from beyond the arc and paced the Continentals with 20 points.
  • Sehring collected a career-best 12 rebounds and recorded her third career double-double with 13 points. 
  • Lambo recorded a season-best 18 points and picked up seven boards and a pair of steals. She scored 14 of those 18 in the final 12:20 of regulation.
  • Hall added 10 points, four assists and two steals.
  • Shay contributed 10 points and dished out four assists in 39 minutes off the bench.  
  • Cortland's Maggie Malone boasted 12 points and six boards.
  • Casey Travers picked up 12 points. 
  • Sarah Tully tallied 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks for the Red Dragons.
  • Logan Streety chipped in 10 points and a team-best eight boards.
Next Game
  • Hamilton will travel to St. John Fisher College (3-1) on Tuesday, Nov. 22 for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
