No. 14 field hockey shut out at No. 10 Williams in NESCAC clash

Continentals host No. 5 Amherst on Saturday when they will honor the Class of 2023

Williams College led by three goals at halftime and went on to a 4-0 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Williams' Williamson Field on Wednesday night.
 
Season Update
  • Nationally ranked No. 14 Hamilton dropped to 8-5 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
  • The Continentals are in seventh place in the NESCAC standings with one conference game remaining. The top eight teams advance to the NESCAC championship.
  • The No. 10 Ephs improved to 10-3 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton's best chances to score were a flurry of three shots on goal in 15 seconds midway through the second quarter, and a shot on goal following a penalty corner late in the third.
  • Emily Batchelor scored her conference-leading 18th goal 2:38 into the first quarter for the Ephs.
  • Catherine Torres made it 2-0 with 10:56 left in the second quarter.
  • Kaela Smith gave Williams a three-goal cushion 51 seconds before the break.
  • Pilar Torres wrapped up the scoring just 1:33 into the third quarter with a rebound goal after her initial shot was stopped.
 
Notes
  • Abby Griffin '26 started in the cage for the Continentals and made three saves.
  • In her first collegiate appearance, Audrey Alix '25 turned away eight shots in the second half for Hamilton.
  • Batchelor, Catherine Torres and Pilar Torres finished with a goal and an assist each.
  • Carson Stephenson and Gates Tenerowicz combined to make five stops for the Ephs.
 
Next Game
Hamilton will honor its seniors prior to the Continentals taking on No. 5 Amherst College in NESCAC action at Goodfriend Field on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon.
