Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Jim Taylor

No. 15 field hockey edged by No. 17 Bowdoin, Grace '25 scores

Continentals lost for the first time since Sept. 24

Bowdoin College scored twice in a span of one minute, 58 seconds in the third quarter and the Polar Bears held on for a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Bowdoin's Ryan Field on Saturday.

Season Update
Nationally ranked No. 15 Hamilton (8-4, 4-4 NESCAC) had its win streak snapped at five games. The No. 17 Polar Bears improved to 8-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

How It Happened
  • Abby Griffin '26 made a diving save at the goal line to stop a shot by Bowdoin's Faith Jennings with four minutes left in the second quarter.
  • The Polar Bears broke the ice with 11:14 remaining in the third quarter. Caroline Higgins sent a penalty corner insert to Georgie Coetzer at the top of the circle and Coetzer blasted a shot through the defense.
  • Jill Cloonan scored with 9:16 to go in the third. Cloonan carried in from the right side and started moving center. The lefty reverse swept a shot as she came across.
  • The Continentals cut their deficit in half with 3:26 left in the fourth quarter. Delaney Grace '25 picked the ball off a Bowdoin player inside the Polar Bear 25. Grace entered the circle and chipped a close-range shot past the goalie's blocker.
  • Hamilton pulled Griffin for the last 2:16 in favor of an extra attacker but managed just one penalty corner and a blocked shot.

Notes
  • Grace has four goals this season and is tied for third on the team with 11 points.
  • Griffin made two saves.
  • The Polar Bears doubled up the Continentals 4-2 in penalty corners.
  • This was the seventh consecutive one-goal game between Hamilton and Bowdoin.
