Carman ’24 tallies 15 kills in volleyball’s NESCAC sweep of Bates

Corrigan ’23 records second consecutive double-double in kills and digs for the Continentals

Hamilton College's Kate Carman '24 smashed a team-high 15 kills and Deirdre Corrigan '23 collected a double-double as the Continentals defeated the Bates College Bobcats in three sets (25-17, 25-10, 25-18) on Friday evening inside Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. 
 
How It Happened
  • After four ties and three lead changes during the first half of the first set, Hamilton rallied with six straight points for a 17-12 advantage. The run featured two kills by Carman and a service ace by Cate Iven '25. The Continentals led by at least four points the rest of the set. 
  • The Continentals dominated the second set. Corrigan served the first eight points before Bates received a side-out on a service error. Iven guided Hamilton with 11 consecutive serves that included three aces as the Continentals held a 19-1 lead. Hamilton clinched the set on a kill by Corrigan.
  • Hamilton jumped out to a 7-3 lead and then a 12-5 advantage. Bates didn't get closer than six points the rest of the way. Hamilton collected its last four points on an Iven ace and three kills by Rylee Bergeron '25. 
  • The Continentals posted a .299 hitting percentage and held a 44-19 advantage in kills. 
  • Hamilton served nine aces to the Bobcats' two and came up with 62 digs. 
Notes
  • Hamilton improved to 8-5 overall (3-4 NESCAC).
  • Bates moved to 5-10 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
  • Carman leads the conference with 3.59 kills per set.
  • Summer McClintic '24 added nine kills and 11 digs. 
  • Corrigan secured her second straight double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs and added three aces. 
  • Iven tallied five service aces. 
  • Melissa Morelli '24 dished out 30 assists and came up with 10 digs.
  • Maggie Nichols '25 led Hamilton at the net with four blocks.  
  • Cece Nourie '25 tied a team high with 13 digs for the Continentals.
  • Bates' Ellie Asada led the Bobcats with 11 digs.

  • Hamilton plays Colby College (11-5, 3-4) in the Continentals' final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
