Carman ’24 hammers 11 kills in volleyball setback at No. 23 Tufts

Junior registers her seventh double-digit kill match of the season

Hamilton College's Kate Carman '24 paced the Continentals with 11 kills in a close three-set NESCAC loss (25-22, 25-16, 26-24) against nationally ranked No. 23 Tufts University inside Tufts' Cousens Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. 
 
How It Happened
  • Hamilton held an early 10-6 lead in the first set and worked their way to an 18-15 advantage. Tufts answered with a 6-1 run for a 21-19 lead. Two Jumbo kills, a bad set by the Continentals and a Hamilton service error gave the set to Tufts. 
  • Tufts dominated the second frame as it recorded a .346 hitting percentage on 13 kills with four errors in 26 attempts.
  • The final set was close from the start. The Continentals gathered their largest lead of the set at 11-8. Tufts rallied for a one-point lead at 15-14 and Hamilton responded with a 3-0 rally for a 17-15 edge. The Jumbos tallied four consecutive points and went back in front, 20-18. The Continentals pushed for a 24-22 advantage on two kills by Carman. Hamilton served for the set but Tufts ended the match with four straight kills. 
  • The matchup featured 26 ties and 11 lead changes.

  • Hamilton moved to 1-3 in NESCAC action and 6-4 overall. 
  • Tufts (8-3, 3-1) collected its second consecutive NESCAC victory. 
  • Summer McClintic '24 tallied nine kills and 11 digs for the Continentals. 
  • Melissa Morelli '24 handed out 27 assists. 
  • Cece Nourie '25 led the Continentals with 12 digs. 
  • Chiara Morley-McLaughlin '24 put up three blocks. 
  • The Jumbos' Jenelle Yarwood posted a team-high 10 kills. 
  • Tufts' Stephanie Lee and Maddie Yu combined for 28 digs with 14 apiece. 
  • Yu racked up 20 assists and Zoe Gregory handed out 14.

  • Hamilton returns to Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday, Oct. 7 for another NESCAC matchup with Bowdoin College (5-6, 2-3) at 7 p.m.
