The Hamilton College Continentals competed in a three-way meet with Wesleyan University and Clark University at the Wesleyan Natatorium on Tuesday afternoon.
The matchup with Wesleyan went down to the last race as Hamilton nearly took the top two spots in the 100-yard freestyle relay, but the Continentals' "B" foursome was edged by the Cardinals' "A" group, and Wesleyan prevailed by two points (135.5-133.5). The Continentals evened their record at 2-2 this season with a convincing 193-55 win over Clark. Hamilton is home at Bristol Pool for the first time this season on Saturday, Jan. 8 against Rochester Institute of Technology at 1 p.m.
The Continentals earned at least a share of first place in seven events as three swimmers helped account for all seven. Hamilton won the 100 free relay in 40.76 seconds with
Nick Wilkins '22, Luke Engel '25, Ben Howell '24 and
Ethan del Rosario '24 making up the quartet. The Continentals tied the Cardinals for first in the 100 medley relay with a time of 45.41 seconds, and del Rosario anchored the group again. He was joined by
Daniel Cho '25, Emilio Vicioso '23 and
Jack Jee '24.
Vicioso captured first place in the 25 and 50 breaststroke with times of 12.42 and 27.31 seconds, respectively.
Nate Hays '23 was right behind Vicioso in both events in 12.50 and 27.82 seconds.
Jee collected wins in the 25 and 50 butterfly in 10.39 and 23.39 seconds, respectively. He was also a close second to Wilkins in the 100 individual medley with a time of 53.63 seconds.
Wilkins finished five-hundredths of a second ahead of Jee in the 100 IM in 53.58 seconds. Wilkins was runner-up in the 50 free with a time of 22.40 seconds.
Engel landed in second place in the 200 free (1:49.82) and the 500 free (4:56.58), and del Rosario tied for second place in the 25 backstroke with a time of 12.01 seconds and was third in the 50 free in 22.47 seconds.
Howell ended up second in the 25 free with a time of 10.53 seconds, and
Jack Sullivan '22 tied for third place in 10.55 seconds.
