Hamilton College's
Eric Anderson '22 drained four 3-pointers and led the Continentals with 16 points in their 76-65 non-conference win against the SUNY Geneseo Knights at Geneseo's Schrader Gymnasium on Monday afternoon.
Hamilton improved its overall record to 6-4. The Continentals enjoyed a 19-6 advantage in second-chance points and scored 34 points in the paint compared to the Knights' 14. Hamilton was 10 of 24 (41.7 percent) from 3-point range. The Continentals open their NESCAC schedule at nationally ranked No. 17 Williams College on Friday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
Geneseo, which is a member of the SUNYAC, dropped to 5-4 overall. The Knights shot 33.8 percent from the floor including 7 of 26 from beyond the arc.
Anderson, who was 4 of 6 from long distance, leads Hamilton in 3-point field goal percentage at 52.3 percent (23-44).
Hank Morgan '25 chipped in a season-high 15 points,
Conner Rood '23 contributed 13 points and seven assists, and
Patrick Mogan '23 posted 10 points and nine rebounds.
Michael Gannon's double-double paced Geneseo with 24 points and 10 boards. Terrance Nichols dropped in 17 points and Harrison Dignan handed out seven assists.
The Continentals led the entire second half, but a jumper by Gannon pulled the Knights within one at 36-35 with 18:19 left. Hamilton reeled off the next 10 points and Geneseo didn't get closer than six during the final 15 minutes. Anderson started the run with a 3-pointer and then a steal and layup. Morgan followed with a short jumper and Rood capped the spurt with a trifecta that made it 46-35 with 15:08 remaining.
Teja Singh '25 restored the Continentals' double-digit cushion at 53-42 on a jumper in the paint with 11:15 to go, and Hamilton led by more than 10 points most of the rest of the way. An Anderson 3-pointer gave the Continentals their largest lead of 18 points at 62-44 with 8:13 left. Hamilton shot better than 52 percent from the field in the second half.
Hamilton scored the first seven points in the first half, but the Knights roared back and took their only lead at 14-12 on a Gannon jumper with 13:16 remaining. The Continentals went back up by seven at 26-19 on yet another Anderson 3-pointer with 7:28 to go. Hamilton managed one basket the rest of the half – an offensive rebound and putback by Anderson that moved the Continentals ahead for good at 30-28 with 1:29 left.
