Duran '22 leads field hockey to home win over William Smith

Senior posts the first multi-point game of her Hamilton career

Hamilton College's Keeley Duran '22 scored a goal and assisted on another in the Continentals' 3-1 non-conference win against the William Smith College Herons at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Wednesday.

Hamilton (4-1 overall) posted its third straight victory over William Smith as the Continentals held a 20-9 shot advantage and were awarded nine penalty corners to four for the Herons. Hamilton hosts nationally ranked No. 1 Middlebury College in NESCAC action on Saturday, Sept. 25 at noon.

Duran recorded the first three-point game of her collegiate career and is tied for second on the team with six points this fall. Maggie Reville '22 made four saves including a spectacular sprawling stop with her stick in the fourth quarter. Reville owns a 1.14 goals against average and a .778 save percentage in almost 316 minutes this season.

Maura Holden '23 scored her team-leading fourth goal and gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead just moments after Herons goaltender Kristen McCormick turned away two shots and Hamilton earned a penalty corner. Duran's blast off the corner from the top of the circle was tipped by Holden, who was standing directly in front of McCormick, with 4:28 left in the first quarter.

The Continentals generated more offense following a corner in the second quarter. Hannah Dillon '24 took a shot from about 10 yards out that was blocked and the ball popped over to Emma Liebegott '22 on the right where she flipped it into the back of the cage from close range for her second goal with 6:19 remaining.

William Smith (3-4) produced some of their own penalty corner magic in the third quarter. Elizabeth Jacobia inserted the ball to Kate Barilla and she slapped a shot intentionally wide near the left post where Jacobia redirected it past Reville for her fifth goal with 2:29 to go.

It didn't take long for Hamilton to restore its two-goal cushion. Lexi Takashima '22 inserted the ball on a penalty corner early in the fourth quarter to Kiera Wax '23 and she pushed it forward into the circle for Duran. She unleashed a hard, low shot that McCormick tried to kick away but the ball skipped over her foot and sailed into the cage just 30 seconds into the fourth for her second goal.
