Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Holden '23 scores in field hockey setback at No. 15 Amherst

Hamilton College recorded its first loss of the season in a 3-1 NESCAC decision against the Amherst College Mammoths at the University of Massachusetts' Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex on Sunday.

Both teams were undefeated this season coming into today. Hamilton, which had only allowed two goals in three games, moved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Nationally ranked No. 15 Amherst (4-0, 2-0) out-shot Hamilton 17-4. Maggie Reville '22 recorded a season-high 10 saves with six of them coming in the second quarter.

The Mammoths struck twice in the first quarter. Their first goal came in the fourth minute off a quick pass from outside the circle and shot low into the back of the net by Muffie Mazambani. Their second goal was scored in the 14th minute off a hard shot from inside the circle that was tipped in by the left post by Natalie Hobbs.

The Continentals' only goal came in the 36th minute. Lexi Takashima '22 took the penalty corner from the left side of the cage and passed it up the middle to Delaney Grace '25 who was just outside the circle. Grace fed the ball to Hannah Dillon '24 at the top of the arc and Dillon shot it from the left side. Maura Holden '23 calmly tapped it in from close range on the right side. Two minutes later Amherst scored its third goal off a hard, low shot from the top of the circle by Abbey Kays.

Hamilton will host William Smith College in non-conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. on Goodfriend Field.
