Hamilton College's
Jackson Vogt '23 scored his first collegiate goal in the second half and lifted the Continentals to a 1-0 non-conference win against the Utica College Pioneers at Utica's Gaetano Stadium on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
Hamilton (2-1-0 overall) outshot the Pioneers 8-5 in the first half, recording three in the first nine minutes.
After a scoreless first half Vogt found the back of the net in the 55
th minute.
Pandelis Margaronis '25 took a corner kick on the left side, the ball landed in the middle of the 18-yard box and Vogt kicked it right over the keeper's reach just under the crossbar.
Utica (2-2-1) had a few opportunities to tie the score but
Ben Ziegler '24 denied them all for his first shutout. A free kick by the Pioneers in the 67
th minute that was taken from 40 yards out landed in a scramble in front of the net, but Ziegler stopped the resulting shot.
Jude Rouhana '25 led the Continentals with three shots -- one on goal -- and Ziegler recorded five saves while Utica's Foti Xidias made four.
The Continentals head to Amherst, Mass., on Saturday, Sept. 18 to play NESCAC rival Amherst College at 2:30 p.m.
