Hamilton College's
Hyla Mosher '23 and
Rylie Mutton '23 combined for three goals and an assist in the Continentals' 4-1 NESCAC victory over the Bates College Bobcats at Bates' Russell Street Field on Saturday.
The victory is Hamilton's first this season after tying nationally ranked No. 12 Williams in a thrilling 1-1 match earlier in the week. The Continentals, who are 1-0-1 overall and in the conference, recorded their third straight triumph against the Bobcats (1-1-0, 0-1).
Mosher opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a brilliant display of team soccer. After cutting in from the right wing,
Olivia Zubarik '25 laid the ball off to Mutton who drove towards the end line before crossing the ball into the six-yard box where Mosher headed it past Bates goalkeeper Kat Nuckols (six saves).
Mutton delivered an early goal-of-the-season candidate less than three minutes later when she scorched a deep free-kick into the top-right corner past Nuckols' outstretched arms. Mutton has three career goals and 11 points.
The Continentals wasted no time opening the second half scoring.
Frankie Lilly '23 put Hamilton up 3-0 in the 50th minute when she headed home a cross from
Erin Rayhill '25 for her second career goal. It was Rayhill's first collegiate assist.
Bates scored its first and only goal in the 72nd minute. Addy Armah ran onto a long through ball before squaring it back to teammate Maeve Parmelee, who slotted a shot home from close range to cut the deficit to 3-1.Â
Mosher scored her second of the day and 10th of her career in the 88th minute. Zubarik once again cut in off the right wing before sizzling a left-footed cross to the back post where Mosher calmly headed the ball into an open net. Mosher has 23 points with the Continentals.
Hamilton goalkeeper
Caity Smith '23 made two saves in the first half, including a big one-on-one stop on the doorstep that kept things scoreless in the 12th minute. Fellow keeper
Zoe Katz '24 played the entirety of the second half and added three saves in her collegiate debut.
The Continentals will continue NESCAC play on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Amherst College.
