Women’s track and field wins six events at Pritchard Track

The Hamilton College Continentals won six events and placed in the top three in 12 in a women's track and field dual meet against Amherst College at Hamilton's Pritchard Track on Saturday afternoon.

Amherst ultimately defeated Hamilton with 84 team points to 77. This was the Continentals' first outdoor race since May 16, 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jane Nealey '21 set the team record and finished second in the discus throw with a mark of 35.80 meters (117 feet, 5 inches). Nealey also placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 34.80 meters (114 feet, 2 inches).

Betsy Overstrum '24 started off the meet by winning the steeplechase in a time of 11:58.38. Katie Cronin '21 finished second with a time of 12:41.58 and Maisie Merz '21 was third in 12:43.28.

The 4x100-meter relay of Nina Shaikh '24, Leah Basel '24, Rachel Brimmer '23 and Sofia Riker '24 took first with a time of 56.60 seconds. Basel and Riker finished second and third, respectively, in the triple jump with identical marks of 10.42 meters (34 feet, 2.25 inches).

Rounding out the first place finishers were Shaikh in both the 100-meter dash (13.30 seconds) and 200-meter dash (28.04 seconds), Mia Schiel '22 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.04 and Alex McEneney '24 in the high jump with a mark of 1.42 meters (4 feet, 7.75 inches).

The 4x400-meter relay of Frankie Lilly '23, Brigit Humphreys '21, Allie Reed '23 and Natasha Lane '21 took second with a time of 4:25.38. Humphreys finished third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:52.92 and Reed placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.15.

Basel placed second in the 100 meters in 13.58 seconds and Kate Labosky '21 was second in the 200 meters in 31.49 seconds. Sabrina Turner '24 and Emma Liles '21 finished second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:15.53 and 1:17.81.

Olivia DiTommaso '24 placed second in the javelin with a throw of 28.50 meters (93 feet, 6 inches).

Hamilton is back in action on Sunday, May 2 at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
