No. 24 women’s lacrosse takes down No. 15 Trinity on senior day

The nationally ranked No. 24 Hamilton College Continentals upset the No. 15 Trinity College Bantams on Saturday in an epic 11-10 NESCAC game at Hamilton's Steuben Field.

Hamilton (2-1, 2-1 NESCAC) outshot Trinity 35-29, won 14 draw controls, was successful on 33 of 35 clear attempts and scooped up 18 ground balls. The two teams will play again on Sunday, April 25 in Hartford, Conn.

Courtney Pierre '21 scored six goals for the Continentals, Abby Smith '24 had two and Olivia Seymour '22, Honor Gabriel '21 and Lauren Hamilton '22 all had one. Seymour picked up two assists as well.

Meghan Lane '24 won seven draw controls and Meaghan Parlee '21 picked up a team-high four ground balls. Megan O'Hara '21 recorded her second win after she made eight saves in 37-plus minutes. Maeve Luparello '23 recorded four saves in 22-plus minutes between the pipes.

The score was tied 3-3 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half before the Continentals scored four unanswered goals and took a 7-3 lead into halftime.

The Continentals started the second half with two more goals for a 9-3 advantage with 22:56 remaining.

The Bantams (2-1, 0-1) scored three straight and cut their deficit to 9-6 by the 14:39 mark, but Pierre scored her fifth goal and gave the Continentals a 10-6 cushion 39 seconds later.

Trinity scored three consecutive goals and cut Hamilton's lead to one at 10-9 with 10:34 to go. Pierre found the back of the net again for an important insurance goal 60 seconds later.

With 6:52 remaining, Trinity had a goal disallowed due to an illegal stick, and the Bantams remained two back of the Continentals. Trinity scored with 1:04 left and had one last shot on goal with 18 seconds remaining, but O'Hara made the save and preserved the one-goal edge. Trinity outscored Hamilton 7-4 in the second half.

The Continentals honored their seniors after the game with a ceremony.
