Hazzard ’21, Murray ’24, Oblak ’24 score first goals in men’s lacrosse setback

The nationally ranked No. 11 Williams College Ephs posted an 18-5 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals on Saturday at Hamilton's Withiam Field.

Williams (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) outshot Hamilton 48-31. The Continentals were successful on 23 of 29 clearing attempts, picked up 19 ground balls and won 12 faceoffs.

Jeremy Hazzard '21 and Johnny Oblak '24 scored their first collegiate goals at Hamilton. Tim Murray '24, Quin Crowley '22 and Britt Defeo '22 scored the other three for the Continentals (0-2, 0-2). Crowley picked up a team-high four ground balls and won 11 faceoffs. Max Scheidl '21 recorded 11 saves in 58 minutes in goal.

Williams scored the first goal 3:24 into the first quarter and Crowley tied the score seven seconds later after he won a faceoff. The Ephs scored four more times before Defeo found the back of the net and Hamilton trailed 5-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Hamilton's defense held Williams to just two goals in the second quarter and Murray scored at the 8:25 mark. The teams headed into halftime with the Ephs holding a 7-3 advantage.

Williams scored seven unanswered goals in the third quarter and started the fourth with three more in a row. Hazzard and Oblak scored 12 seconds apart midway through the fourth quarter -- both coming directly after faceoff wins.

Hamilton travels to Hartford, Conn., on Sunday, April 25 to play Trinity.
