The Hamilton College Continentals swept the Bates College Bobcats in three sets in NESCAC action on Friday evening at Bates' Alumni Gymnasium.
The set scores were 25-17, 25-23 and 25-21. The Continentals (6-5 overall, 2-3 NESCAC) posted a team hitting percentage of .234 with 42 kills while the Bobcats posted a .111 hitting percentage with 30 kills and 17 attack errors.
Hamilton recorded eight service aces, 41 assists and 56 digs.
Deirdre Corrigan '23 led the team with a season-high 15 kills and added three service aces and 11 digs.
Kate Carman '24 had 14 kills,
Cece Nourie '25 was credited with 12 digs and
Melissa Morelli '24 recorded 34 assists, 11 digs and two aces.
In the first set Hamilton went on a seven-point run to take an early 13-4 lead. Bates was able to close the gap to six points but the Continentals finished the set with a kill by Corrigan and an ace by Morelli to take the eight-point win.
Bates (5-9, 1-5) led the majority of the second set but the Continentals tied the score eight times before they took the lead. The Bobcats tied it two more times and Hamilton once again finished the set with the last two points on a
Drew Stimson '25 kill and a Bobcats ball-handling error.
The Continentals took an early 6-2 lead in the third set but the Bobcats stayed within reach until Hamilton went on a six-point run for a 19-11 advantage. Bates attempted a comeback with a six-point spree of their own to come within 23-21, but Hamilton was able to close out the set and the match on a Bates attack error and a kill by Corrigan. .
Hamilton heads to Waterville, Maine, to play Colby College for another NESCAC match on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.
