Hamilton College's
Keeley Duran '22 scored three goals and the Continentals pulled away late for a 5-0 non-conference win against the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on Wednesday evening.
The Continentals (7-3 overall) scored three goals in the final 8:15 of the fourth quarter. Hamilton's five goals are the most it has scored in a game since the 2019 season opener, which was a 7-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Continentals, who received votes in this week's Division III Top 20 coaches poll, host nationally ranked No. 13 Bowdoin College -- also 7-3 -- on Saturday, Oct. 9 at noon.
Skidmore (6-6) goaltender Jess Gaetgens made eight saves as Hamilton held a 16-5 shot advantage and was awarded eight penalty corners to the Thoroughbreds' five. Skidmore was credited with one shot and two corners over the last three quarters. One of the Thoroughbreds' best chances came less than four minutes into the first quarter when the Continentals'
Grace Cooper '24 batted away a shot near the left post for a defensive save after Mariah Redler maneuvered around goaltender
Maggie Reville '22.
Duran entered the game with two career goals, but now her five goals and three assists lead Hamilton in points this season with 13.
Kiera Wax '23 recorded three assists and leads the team with four this fall.
Lexi Takashima '22 and
Alana King '24 regstered two assists apiece. Reville turned away three shots for her fourth collegiate shutout and second this season.
The Continentals scored with 6:21 left in the second quarter on a penalty corner. Takashima inserted the ball to Wax and she pushed it ahead for a shot from just inside the circle by Duran. The ball was tipped over Gaetgens' stick by her teammate and the ball settled into the top-left corner of the cage.
Hamilton had a chance to increase its lead with 2:01 remaining in the second when the Continentals were awarded a penalty stroke, but Gaetgens made the stop. Hamilton took that 1-0 lead into the break at halftime.
The Continentals scored their second goal with 7:56 to go in the third quarter on another corner.
Lydon Kelley '25 inserted the ball to Wax and she pushed it ahead for Duran. This time Duran passed to her right to King but King sent it right back to Duran on a nice give-and-go, and Duran buried the shot from a couple yards to the left of the penalty stroke dot.
Duran made it three goals in one night with 8:15 left in the fourth quarter on yet another penalty corner. Takashima inserted to Wax and she set it up for Duran's blast from just inside the circle that managed to avoid the traffic in front of Gaetgens.
Emma Liebegott '22 scored her third goal this fall and the fourth of her Hamilton career with 4:23 remaining. Gaetgens made two saves following a corner and King found the second rebound. She backhanded a pass to Liebegott and she one-timed a backhand shot into the boards from about five yards away.
The Continentals scored the fifth and final goal on, of course, a corner. Wax settled Takashima's insert and passed to her left to
Ellie Arnold '22. Arnold whacked a bouncing shot that snuck between Gaetgens and the left post with 2:26 to go.
