Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer falls to No. 4 Tufts

The Hamilton College Continentals lost 3-0 to the nationally ranked No. 4 Tufts University Jumbos in a NESCAC match at Tufts' Bello Field on Sunday afternoon.

Tufts out-shot Hamilton (2-6-1, 0-6-0 NESCAC) 9-5 and had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Spencer Royal '22 led the Continentals with two shots and one on goal, Sam Webber '23 also logged two shots and Thomas Kantrowitz '25 had one. Ben Ziegler '24 started in goal and made two saves and Surya Mani '23 had one.

Tufts' first goal came in the 12th minute off a long cross from the left side to the inside of the box on the right and a one-step kick put it into the top-left corner. Their second goal came in the 17th minute off a rebound in front of the net. Ziegler made a diving save but the ball deflected back out into a Jumbo player who shot it high and into the center of the goal.

Royal had two chances to score for the Continentals. The first was in the 20th minute on a rocket from 30 yards, but Tufts' Erik Lauta made the diving save. The next opportunity came in the 21st minute when Royal dribbled the ball down the left side, deked a defender and booted it from the top of the box just over the crossbar.

Webber also had two chances to put Hamilton on the board. In the 31st minute he shot it just over the crossbar from 40 yards, and in the 49th minute a shot from the top of the box deflected off a defender and sailed wide right.

The Jumbos' third goal was scored in the 73rd minute on a pass from the left side to the top of the box, and the ball was tapped in low to the left side. In the 80th minute Mani made a diving save for the Continentals that snuffed a one-on-one attempt by Tufts (8-0-1, 4-0-1).

The Continentals will host unbeaten SUNY Oneonta for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. on Love Field.
