Hamilton College recorded its fifth straight win as
Charles Hawthorn '25 scored in the 64th minute of the Continentals' 1-0 NESCAC decision over the Williams College Ephs on Wednesday afternoon at Hamilton's Love Field.
The Continentals (7-6-1, 3-6-0 NESCAC) posted their first win over the Ephs since 2013 and their third ever in 46 meetings. Hamilton will play its last regular season match on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Wesleyan University at 2 p.m.
Williams (6-5-2, 2-4-2 NESCAC) out-shot Hamilton 12-11 and had possession of the ball 60 percent of the time.
Thomas Benson '22 made four saves for the Continentals and the Ephs' Ben Diffley made two. Since returning to the lineup, Benson has a 0.35 goals against average and .889 save percentage in 255-plus minutes. Hawthorn,
Pandelis Margaronis '25 and
Justin D'Alessandro '23 recorded Hamilton's three shots on goal. The Continentals have four shutouts this season and three in the last four matches.
Luke Peplowski '25 crossed the ball into the box from the right corner and Hawthorn headed it into the left portion of the net past Diffley. Hawthorn is tied for the team lead with three goals and has a team-best eight points. Peplowski leads the team with five assists..
Both teams had five shots and two saves in the first half. Hamilton had a chance to score in the 42
nd minute when D'Alessandro headed the ball towards the top right from close range, but Diffley was able to jump up and make the save.
Williams had seven shots in the second half, two of which were on goal, but didn't find the back of the net. Hamilton's only shot on net in the second half was Hawthorn's goal.
