Men's soccer posts third straight win with 4-0 defeat of SUNY Poly

The Hamilton College Continentals posted their third straight win with a 4-0 non-conference decision over SUNY Poly on Wednesday evening at Hamilton's Withiam Field.

The Continentals (5-6-1 overall) handed the Wildcats their second loss in 14 matches this season and out-shot them 21-8 with 12 shots on goal. Luke Ehrenfreund '25, Luke Peplowski '25 and Julian Jacobs '24 all recorded three shots with two on net. Thomas Benson '22 made two saves in his first start this season for Hamilton, and Liam Dorsey '22 made one.

The Continentals scored their first goal in the 15th minute. The ball bounced off a Wildcat defender and Peplowski redirected it midair to the middle of the box where Roth Wetzel '22 dove to head it into the back of the net for his first goal this season and the fifth of his career. Peplowski leads the team with four assists.

Hamilton scored again a little more than eight minutes later. SUNY Poly (9-2-3) played the ball back to their goalkeeper who tried to cross it to the left but Sam Webber '23 intercepted it, dribbled through a defender and tapped it past the keeper into the bottom-right corner for his first goal this season and second of his career.

In the 39th minute Jacobs passed the ball from 40 yards out on the right side to Simon Hoke '24 who dribbled it into the box and shot into the bottom-left corner for his first collegiate goal. The Continentals led 3-0 at the break.

Hamilton's fourth goal came in the 50th minute. Ehrenfreund fed the ball to Thomas Kantrowitz '25 just outside the left corner of the 18-yard box and Kantrowitz booted it into the top-right corner. Kantrowitz is tied for the team lead with three goals. SUNY Poly had two shots on goal in the second half and Benson and Dorsey made the saves to secure the shutout.

The Continentals are back in NESCAC action on Saturday, Oct. 16 when they host Trinity College at 1:30 p.m. Hamilton will honor its seven seniors prior to the start of the match.
