Box Score Hamilton College's Carly O'Hern '20 and Mackenzie Aldridge '20 scored 17 points each in the Continentals' 74-71 double-overtime NESCAC loss to the Trinity College Bantams on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams at Trinity's Oosting Gymnasium.
Trinity led 19-18 after the first quarter and outscored Hamilton 13-12 in the second to head into halftime up 32-30.
The lead changed five times in the third quarter but the Continentals came back and took a three-point edge at 47-44 heading into the fourth quarter.
Hamilton (15-9, 5-5 NESCAC) took their largest lead of six points at 53-47 with 8:20 left in the fourth. Trinity tied the score with back-to-back 3-pointers and took the lead with two free throws.
Kelcie Zarle '22 and Kayla Glemaud '21 made a free throw each to tie things up at 55-55 with 47 seconds left.
The Bantams (16-8, 5-5) had a 58-55 edge with 14 seconds remaining but a 3-pointer by Aldridge with eight seconds remaining sent the game into overtime.
The teams headed into a second overtime after they both scored eight points in the first one. This was the Continentals' first double-overtime contest since Jan. 14, 2011.
Hamilton trailed 72-68 with 45 seconds left but Aldridge drained a 3-pointer and pulled the Continentals within one with 32 seconds to go. Hamilton was forced to foul and the Bantams made both free throws for the three-point advantage with eight seconds remaining. The Continentals missed a 3-point attempt that would have tied the score again just before the final buzzer.
Scout Lansing '21 had 11 points, five assists and five rebounds, and Zarle recorded 10 points before both players eventually fouled out. Liz Arnold '22 picked up a team-high nine rebounds while Glemaud had seven to go along with eight points.
Hamilton closed out the regular season with its best conference record since joining the conference for basketball in 2011-12. The Continentals and the Bantams finished tied for fifth in the conference standings, but Trinity earned the No. 5 seed for the 2020 NESCAC Women's Basketball Championship and will play at Williams College in the quarterfinals next Saturday. Hamilton will open the postseason at Bowdoin College next Saturday.
