Volleyball wins two matches at New Paltz Hawks Invitational

The Hamilton College Continentals split four matches at the 2019 Hawks Women's Volleyball Invitational hosted by SUNY New Paltz on Sept. 6 and 7.

Hamilton swept Mount Saint Mary College in three sets (25-14, 25-14, 25-15) and dropped a four-set decision against the hosts (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22) on Friday night. The Continentals cruised to a three-set victory against Alfred University (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) before falling to SUNY Oneonta in three sets (25-23, 25-16, 32-30) on Saturday.

Hamilton plays three matches at the SUNY Brockport Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14.

Jane Fanning '22 paced Hamilton and tied a career high with 10 kills and Giuliana Rankin '20 and Deirdre Corrigan '23 chipped in eight apiece. Emma Parkhurst '21 posted 14 assists and 17 digs and Corrigan served up three aces. Nikki Matsuoka '21, who was one of the NESCAC leaders in digs a year ago, came away with 14.

Amber Smith led Alfred (3-5 overall) with 11 kills and 19 digs. Sarah Raeman added 10 kills and no errors in 20 attempts.

SUNY Oneonta 3 sets, Hamilton 0
Rankin smashed 11 kills and added three blocks including two solo stops. Parkhurst registered seven kills and 11 assists and Matsuoka led all players with 27 digs. Matsuoka's total was the most for her since Sept. 14 of last year when she had 28 in a five-set match against Connecticut College. Dorothy Poucher '21 served three aces and Kendall Boxe '22 led the defense at the net with four blocks.

Clara Culeton guided Oneonta (5-3) with 14 kills and six blocks. Lindsay Pelaccio led the Red Dragons' defense with 23 digs.

New Paltz 3 sets, Hamilton 1
Rankin hammered a team-high 11 kills in Hamilton's first match of the 2019 season. Poucher had nine kills, Fanning chipped in eight and Parkhurst dished out 22 assists. Corrigan posted a double-double with 13 digs and 12 assists and contributed eight kills.

Matsuoka led the defensive effort with 19 digs, Kayla Self '21 chipped in a career-best 18, and Kendall Searcy '20 matched her personal-best with 17.

Madison Van Pelt topped New Paltz (2-3) with 16 kills and Haley Timarky contributed 36 assists and 21 digs.
