Box Score Connecticut College took the lead for good midway through the second quarter and the Camels posted a 72-54 NESCAC women's basketball win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Conn. College's Luce Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Halie Serbent '19 posted 17 points to pace the Continentals (11-4, 1-2 NESCAC) for the second straight game. Serbent added four rebounds, one block and shot a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. Marie Steiner '20 dropped in 13 points and Kendall Rallins '19 chipped in six. Samantha Srinivasan '18 and Mackenzie Aldridge '20 added five points apiece. Lauren Getman '18 gathered a team-high eight rebounds and Srinivasan grabbed seven.
Kylie Caouette led the Camels (10-4, 2-2 NESCAC) with 17 points, including four three-pointers, and made four steals. Meggie Corcoran totaled 16 points and eight rebounds. Sami Ashton scored 11 and dished out four assists. Nancy Coulverson tallied nine points, eight boards and three blocks.
There were two ties and two lead changes before Steiner created her own 7-0 run with two layups and a three-pointer to give Hamilton its largest lead of five points at 14-9 with 2:04 left in the first quarter. Caouette scored five of seven unanswered points for the Camels for the third lead change and Conn. College closed the opening quarter with a 16-14 edge.
Hamilton opened the second with seven unanswered points. Serbent started the run with a layup at 8:32 and Srinivasan quickly grabbed a steal and dropped in a bucket to take back an 18-16 lead. Serbent ended the run with a layup off a Rallins steal and she completed the three-point play at the charity stripe. The Camels responded with 10 unanswered points that gave them a lead they never surrendered.
The Continentals returned from the half with a 31-23 deficit. Serbent sank two free throws to get Hamilton back within six points at 32-26 with 6:56 left in the third quarter, but that was as close as the Camels allowed the Continentals to get. Connecticut College achieved its largest lead of 22 points at 60-38 with 6:10 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Hamilton returns to Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Tuesday, Jan. 16 for a non-conference game against SUNY Brockport at 5:30 p.m. The Continentals are 5-0 at home this season.
