Women's basketball notches comeback victory over SUNY Poly

The Hamilton College women's basketball team recovered from an early 13-point deficit to defeat SUNY Polytechnic 58-49 on Tuesday afternoon in Marcy, N.Y.

Carly O'Hern '20 scored a game-high 18 points and went 8 of 9 from the free-throw line. Samantha Srinivasan '18 tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Lauren Getman '18 posted 12 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Khristaijah Jackson led the way for the Wildcats with 16 points and added eight rebounds. Kiersten Leos dropped in 12 points and Taylor Aybar had 10 rebounds.

SUNY Poly gained their largest lead at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats shot 46.4 percent from the floor for a 13-point lead after the first 10 minutes before the Continentals began the comeback effort.

Hamilton started the second quarter with seven unanswered points in the first three minutes before the Wildcats responded with a 6-0 run of their own. With 3:41 left, O'Hern drew a foul on a layup and completed the three-point play at the line, igniting a 10-4 Hamilton run to enter the half down 28-22.

The third quarter was an even battle until Halie Serbent '19 and Mackenzie Aldridge '20 added one free throw apiece in the final minutes to cut the Wildcat lead to four.

Srinivasan opened the fourth quarter going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to tie the score at 41-41, and gave Hamilton their first lead with a layup off an offensive board by Serbent. The momentum continued as the Continental defense held the home team scoreless until 29 seconds remained in the fourth to take the 54-41 lead. SUNY Poly added eight points in the final seconds, but O'Hern ensured the victory by going 4-for-4 from the foul line.

Hamilton (3-0 overall) opens its home schedule when the team welcomes Utica College (2-1) to Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Monday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.
