The Hamilton College men's squash team split a pair of matches against NESCAC opponents this weekend as the Continentals opened the 2017-18 season on Nov. 18.

Hamilton, which is 29th in the College Squash Association preseason rankings, edged No. 28 Tufts 5-4 at Belmont Hill School in Belmont, Mass., on Saturday. The Continentals fell 9-0 at No. 20 Williams on Sunday. Tufts' record dipped to 0-2 after the match while Williams improved to 1-3.

Colin O'Dowd '19 defeated his Jumbos opponent in four games including hard-fought 13-11 and 12-10 decisions in the first two games at the first position. Callum Sondhi '20 rallied from down a game to win in five at the second position. Sondhi captured the fourth and fifth games by scores of 11-8 and 11-5, respectively.

Tristan Chaix '20 was a winner in four games at the fourth position. Chaix prevailed in the first and fourth games by identical 12-10 decisions. John Sawyers '21, who was playing in his first collegiate match, outlasted his opponent in five games at the fifth position. Sawyers rebounded from a heart-breaking 13-15 setback in the fourth game with a convincing 11-4 triumph in the deciding game. William Jordan '20 swept his Tufts opponent in three games at the eighth position.

The men are off until Saturday, Dec. 2 when they host Bowdoin and Middlebury at Little Squash Center.
