Women's hockey sweeps Williams with a 2-1 decision in game two

Box Score

The Hamilton College women's hockey team defeated Williams College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Lansing Chapman Rink in Williamstown, Mass.

Hamilton (2-0) outscored the Ephs (0-2) 8-3 throughout the two-game series to open the season with a 2-0 NESCAC record. Middlebury and Connecticut College also went 2-0 in NESCAC action over the weekend.

Anchored by a 39-save performance from Sam Walther '18, the Hamilton defense was tested as the Continentals were outshot 40-25.

After 33 minutes of play, Williams' Emily Eide broke the scoreless tie 12:50 into the second period. Meghan Halloran captured the loose puck in the right corner and passed to Eide at the point. Eide fired a screened shot that deflected off a skate and the puck slid just over the goal line.

The Ephs had a chance to take a two-goal lead less than a minute later, but Walther poked the puck off a Williams stick and into the right corner. Williams followed by committing one of their five penalties and Hamilton capitalized.

Kate Piacenza '21 passed to Emily Williams '19 at the right point. Williams took a shot towards the left side of the goal, but Christina Cleroux (22 saves) made the kick save and the puck rebounded to a wide open Olivia Hawes '19 for the one-timer into the back of the net.

Hamilton used the momentum to take the lead 1:11 later as Karina Sirabian '21 notched her first collegiate goal. Siriabian flipped a back-hander into the pads of Cleroux, but Jade Alvillar '18 gathered the rebound and distributed the puck to Andrea Rockey '19 at the point. Rockey took a shot that deflected to the front of the crease where Sirabian put her stick on the puck, made a quick spin move, and snuck the puck inside the right post.

The Continentals welcome Morrisville State to Russell Sage Rink on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for their home opener. The puck drops at 1 p.m.
