Box Score The Hamilton College women's basketball team defeated Alfred University 69-55 on Saturday afternoon to wrap up SUNY Brockport's Tip-Off Classic in Brockport, N.Y.
Lauren Getman '18 and Carly O'Hern '20 were named to the all-tournament team. Getman averaged 13.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, and shot 75 percent at the free-throw line. O'Hern led the team in points per game (15.5), free throw percentage (77.8), and assist-to-turnover ratio (5.0). The duo also contributed 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game apiece during the tournament.
Hamilton outshot the Saxons at the free-throw line 85.7 percent to 59.1 percent and scored 23 points off 23 turnovers.
O'Hern totaled a team-high 17 points and went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Getman matched a career-high with 14 rebounds and added 16 points for the 10th double-double of her Hamilton career. Marie Steiner '20 went 5-for-7 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to add a career-high 15 points off the bench.
Sophomore guard Jamie Wilcox led the way for the Saxons with a career-high 32 points. Lyndsey McCoy scored 11 points and Sam Pierre-Louis totaled seven points and eight rebounds.
Alfred notched a 42.9 field goal percentage in the first quarter en route to a 17-15 edge after the first 10 minutes. The Saxons earned their largest lead with 3:09 left in the first after Wilcox drew a foul, made the layup and completed the three-point play for a 13-8 edge.
Following a Saxons turnover, a layup by O'Hern gave Hamilton a 19-18 lead 1:35 into the second quarter, but five unanswered points from Wilcox returned the lead to Alfred. O'Hern made back-to-back layups for Hamilton to tie the score at 23-23 and again at 25-25. The Continentals responded with an 8-1 run in the last four minutes of the quarter, giving Hamilton a 33-26 lead at the half.
Wilcox scored five points for Alfred to open the third quarter but Halie Serbent '19 (eight points) added six to maintain Hamilton's advantage. The Saxons then scored eight unanswered to cut into their deficit, making the score 41-38 with 4:04 left in the third. O'Hern scored seven points in the last 3:27 to ensure the 49-42 Hamilton lead entering the final quarter.
The Continentals accumulated a field goal percentage of 58.3 percent and were perfect from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Hamilton was outscored 7-4 in the first three minutes as Alfred came within four points of the lead, but Getman and Steiner stopped the momentum shift as they combined for 10 points and gave Hamilton a 63-55 cushion with 2:51 left. The Continentals scored six unanswered to finish the contest, including two free throws apiece by Mackenzie Aldridge '20 and O'Hern.
Hamilton (2-0 overall) travels to SUNY Polytechnic (2-0) on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for a non-conference game starting at 2 p.m.
