Women's hockey pulls away to beat Plymouth State 4-1

Box Score

The Hamilton College women's hockey team scored four goals in the final 25 minutes to post a 4-1 win over Plymouth State in Saturday's second round of the Saint Michael's DoubleTree Classic in South Burlington, Vt.

The Continentals, who are receiving votes in both national polls, are now 6-3-0 on the season.

Jaime Meroz '19 made 10 saves in her first start of the season and 10 Hamilton players reached the scoring column.

All-tournament selections Andrea Rockey '19 and Olivia Hawes '19 scored twice in a 34-second span late in the second period to break a scoreless tie. In the third period, Michaela Giuttari '20 and Katie Parkman '17 added goals 33 seconds apart.

Rockey's fourth goal of the season came with 4:40 to go in the second. She gathered a loose puck at the offensive blue line and rushed past two defenders before deking to the backhand and finishing with a pretty shot to the top right corner.

Hawes notched the game winner 34 seconds later, tipping a shot taken by Sara Taffe '17 from the point through traffic into the bottom left corner. Emily Williams '19 also picked up an assist on the goal.

The Continentals went ahead 3-0 at 3:48 of the final period when Giuttari managed to score with a shot from behind the net. Taegan Blackwell '19 sent an ice-level shot wide of the left post that Giuttari gathered from behind the net. Her shot hit the skate of goaltender Emelie Lindqvist and bounced back into the net.

Parkman closed out the Continental scoring 33 seconds later with a power-play goal. She gathered her own rebound at the top of the crease and sent a backhand shot from one knee between her legs into the net.

Plymouth State got on the board at the 6:06 mark when Alie Louie sent a high wrist shot from the point that went through traffic into the top right corner.

Lindqvist made 29 saves for Plymouth State (5-7-1).

The Continentals are back in action Tuesday with a 3 p.m. non-league game at SUNY Potsdam.
