The Hamilton College men's squash team split a pair of matches away from home on Jan. 28 and 29.
The Continentals (4-9 overall) had an easy time in a 9-0 rout of Colgate University on Saturday afternoon and were edged 5-4 by Hobart College on Sunday afternoon. Hamilton entered the weekend at No. 27 in the College Squash Association Team Rankings while the Statesmen (5-10) were 23rd.
Four Continentals won both of their matches during the weekend, led by Colin O'Dowd '19 at the first position. Nicholas Conzelman '20 (seventh position), Atticus Jones '19 (eighth) and Jonathan Ruth '18 (ninth) were the other players who went 2-0. O'Dowd, Conzelman and Jones didn't drop a game all weekend while Ruth rallied from two down and captured a five-game thriller against Hobart. O'Dowd leads the team with seven wins this season.
Everyone swept their Colgate opponent in three games except for Callum Sondhi '20, who was leading 12-10, 2-0 at the second position when his opponent retired from the match. Tucker Hamlin '17 (third), Tristan Chaix '20 (fourth), Sam Matlick '17 (fifth) and Mark Sperry '17 (sixth) were the other winners.
Hamilton competes in the 2017 NESCAC Men's Squash Championship at Amherst College from Friday, Feb. 3 to Sunday, Feb. 5. The Continentals' first-round opponent will be announced later this week.
