Women's hockey drops 2-1 game to Wesleyan

Box Score

The Hamilton College women's hockey team lost for just the second time in seven games, falling 2-1 to visiting Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon in a NESCAC game at Russell Sage Rink.

The Continentals are now 8-5-2 overall with a 4-3-1 NESCAC mark.

Wesleyan (7-5-3, 4-3-1 NESCAC) scored the game-winner midway through the third period. The Cardinals had held a 1-0 lead for nearly 42 minutes before Hamilton tied the score 3:44 into the third.

Gillian Roberts '19 tied the game with her first collegiate goal. Andrea Rockey '19 and Emily Williams '19 assisted on Roberts' goal, which came on a shot from the right circle.

Wesleyan's game-winner came on a wrist shot by Jackie Kilar. Alicia Nickolenko set up the goal, gathering a loose puck off the left boards, then skating below the goal line and sending a centering pass to Kilar cutting to the slot.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game on a power-play goal by Cici Frattasio. Gina Mangiafridda sent a pass from the point to the right circle, where Abigail Rutt played it into the slot. Frattasio picked up her fifth goal of the winter, redirecting the puck into the net.

The goal marked just the second successful power play by a Hamilton opponent this season (in 44 attempts).

Wesleyan maintained the lead despite being outshot 17-4 in the opening period (and 36-17 for the game).

Sam Walther '18 stopped 15 shots for Hamilton. Allegra Grant made 35 saves, including a fantastic glove save of a Willams shot early in the second period.

Hamilton plays its final non-conference game of the regular season Tuesday, hosting SUNY Cortland in a 7 p.m. game.
