Women's hockey posts fifth shutout in scoreless tie with Wesleyan

Box Score

The Hamilton College women's hockey team played visiting Wesleyan University to a scoreless overtime tie Friday night at Russell Sage Rink to open their weekend NESCAC series. The Continentals are now 8-4-2 on the season with a 4-2-1 conference mark.

Sam Walther '18 made 27 saves to record her fifth shutout of the season -- tying her year-old school record. She extended her career mark to 13. Her final save came in the closing seconds, stopping Wesleyan's Abigal Rutt as the overtime period ended. Walther's five shutouts this winter are Division III's third-highest total.

Allegra Grant made 40 saves for the Cardinals (6-5-3, 3-3-1 NESCAC).

Hamilton was whistled for four penalties, but the nation's best penalty-killing unit thwarted each one and has now killed 40 of 41 power-play attempts this season.

The two teams are back in action Saturday, concluding their series with a 3 p.m. game at Sage Rink.
