Box Score Four Williams College players scored in double figures and the Ephs posted a 69-52 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Williams' Chandler Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Ephs (12-5, 2-3 NESCAC) took the lead for good with an 11-0 run late in the third quarter. There were six ties and 13 lead changes through the first 25 minutes. Williams went 22-for-28 at the free throw line and held a 45-37 advantage on the glass.
Carly O'Hern '20 scored 15 of her season-high 17 points in the first half for Hamilton (7-9, 1-4). Samantha Srinivasan '18 chipped in nine points and a career-best 13 rebounds. Halie Serbent '19 added eight points and Caroline Barrett '17 handed out four assists.
Kristin Fechtelkotte led the Ephs with 15 points and Lauren McCall dropped in 14. Devon Caveney registered 14 points, nine boards and three assists. Amanni Fernandez contributed 12 points, three assists and three steals.
The Continentals took their last lead at 38-37 on a Lauren Getman '18 jumper with 5:03 left in the third quarter. Williams scored the next 11 points for a 48-38 cushion with 2:00 remaining in the third. Caveney started the spurt with two free throws, Lydia Zaleski made a layup and Fernandez sank two shots at the line. McCall capped the run with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws.
The Ephs led 50-40 after three quarters. Hamilton scored the first five points of the fourth quarter and cut its deficit in half. Serbent made a layup and Srinivasan nailed a 3-pointer to make it 50-45 with 7:58 to go.
Williams responded with an 8-2 run that put the game out of reach. McCall scored from close range, Fernandez made the second of two free throws and Lexi Jones made a basket in the paint. After a layup by Srinivasan, Fernandez went 1-for-2 at the line and Jones made it 58-47 on a layup with 4:29 left. The Ephs went 17-for-21 at the charity stripe in the second half.
The score was tied at 7-7 midway through the first quarter but Williams went on a 10-2 run and grabbed a 17-9 advantage with 2:42 remaining. The quarter ended with the Ephs holding a 19-14 lead. Mackenzie Aldridge '20 scored all seven of her points in the first 10 minutes for the Continentals.
Williams jumped out to a 24-14 cushion early in the second quarter but Hamilton roared back with a 14-2 spurt and took a 28-26 lead with 4:41 to go when O'Hern drained a 3-pointer. Caveney put the Ephs right back in the lead on a basket from beyond the arc and O'Hern handed it back to the Continentals with a layup. Caveney scored the last two points of the half and gave Williams a 31-30 edge with two free throws. O'Hern scored 10 points and the Ephs were just 3 of 15 from the floor during the quarter.
The lead changed hands seven times and neither team led by more than a point during the first five minutes of the third quarter. Williams went 8-for-8 at the line during the third.
Hamilton travels to Albany College of Pharmacy for a non-conference contest on Monday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
