Women's basketball explodes for 91 points, wins 4th in a row

Hamilton College's Lauren Getman '18 scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Continentals posted a 91-52 non-conference women's basketball win against the Cazenovia College Wildcats in Cazenovia, N.Y., on Sunday afternoon.

Hamilton (4-3 overall) won its fourth straight game and the Continentals recorded their highest point total since a 93-48 win against Cazenovia on Nov. 18, 2008. Hamilton has won all 11 meetings with the Wildcats.

Getman collected her seventh career double-double. She leads the team with 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Mackenzie Aldridge '20 dropped in 15 points and Samantha Srinivasan '18 chipped in 14. Srinivasan went 5 of 6 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Carly O'Hern '20 added a season-high 10 points.

Caroline Barrett '17 tied the team record with 11 assists as the Continentals handed out 28 as a team. Barrett leads the NESCAC with 29 assists. Susan Coole passed out 11 assists against SUNY Polytechnic on Jan. 12, 1993. Kendall Rallins '19 was credited with five assists and Halie Serbent '19 made four of the team's 12 steals.

Hamilton enjoyed a 48-32 advantage on the glass and committed just eight turnovers. The Continentals have outrebounded all of their opponents this season and their rebound margin is plus-11.0 per game. Hamilton made 12 of 25 shots (48 percent) from beyond the arc.

Skylar Girard paced the Wildcats (1-6) with 17 points and Taylor Spranger added 15. Kelli Shepardson registered 10 points and eight boards.

The Continentals outscored Cazenovia 27-2 in the fourth quarter and turned a 14-point game into a 39-point rout. Hamilton shot 58.8 percent from the floor including 5 of 6 from long range, while the Wildcats made just 1 of 17 shots. After Girard opened the quarter with a layup, the Continentals finished the game with a 27-0 run. Srinivasan scored nine points in the final 10 minutes alone.

Hamilton jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter and led the whole way. Aldridge nailed a pair of 3-pointers and Getman followed with a couple jumpers. The Continentals owned an 18-13 cushion after one quarter. Aldridge and Spranger scored eight points apiece in the opening 10 minutes.

The Continentals opened the second quarter with an 11-1 run and led by double digits the rest of the half. Hamilton held a 43-26 advantage at the break as O'Hern came off the bench and scored eight points in the quarter. Shepardson chipped in seven points for Cazenovia.

The Continentals' lead fluctuated between 12 and 18 points in the third quarter as both teams heated up. The Wildcats actually outscored Hamilton 24-21 and pulled within 64-50 after 30 minutes. Cazenovia was 10 of 14 from the field and received eight points from Girard in the third.

The Continentals return home for another non-conference game against Alfred University on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
