Hamilton breezes to 37-point win against Bard

Box Score

Hamilton College opened the first quarter with a 15-0 run and the Continentals went on to rout Bard College 64-27 in a non-conference women's basketball game at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Bard's 27 points are the fewest allowed by the Continentals since they defeated Wells College 52-23 on Dec. 5, 2011. The Raptors shot 20.4 percent from the field and committed 26 turnovers.

Hamilton (3-3 overall) won its third straight game -- all in the last six days. Halie Serbent '19 was 4 of 4 from the floor and went 3-for-3 at the free throw line for 11 points. Serbent also grabbed seven rebounds.

Ten players scored two or more points for the Continentals. Marie Steiner '20 came off the bench and dropped in a season-high 11. Kendall Rallins '19, who also came off the bench, scored all 10 of her points in the first half. Samantha Srinivasan '18 led all players with eight boards, Caroline Barrett '17 handed out four assists, Carly O'Hern '20 was credited with four of the team's 14 steals and Rylie Mainville '18 blocked three shots.

Hamilton pulled down 20 offensive rebounds and enjoyed a 49-31 advantage on the glass. The Continentals have outrebounded all six of their opponents this season. Srinivasan leads the team with 7.3 per game.

Annie Kissel paced Bard (0-5) with 11 points and three blocks off the bench. Alexis Akingbade collected seven rebounds and Sarah Morris contributed three assists, two blocks and two steals.

Hamilton started the game with 3-pointers by Srinivasan, Lauren Getman '18 and Mackenzie Aldridge '20. Getman made a basket from close range and Aldridge drained two free throws for a 13-0 lead. The Continentals finished the game 11-for-13 at the line. Mia Caterisano '19 capped the spurt with two more free throws with 4:27 left in the quarter.

Kissel entered the game at that point and put the Raptors on the scoreboard with a layup nine seconds later. Hamilton led 21-4 after the first quarter and a 3-point play by Serbent put the Continentals up by 20 for the first time at 24-4 early in the second quarter. A Rallins layup with 4:41 remaining in the second gave Hamilton a 30-point cushion at 34-4. The Continentals led 41-9 at the break.

A basket from close range by Serbent handed Hamilton its largest lead of the afternoon of 37 points at 46-9 with 6:30 to go in the third quarter. The Continentals matched their largest lead at 48-11 and again with the final score on a Caterisano bucket in the paint with 1:10 left. Hamilton led 52-21 after three quarters.

The Continentals travel to Cazenovia College for their fourth game in seven days on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.
