Women's basketball notches road win at Union

Hamilton College's Mackenzie Aldridge '20 scored a season-high 21 points and the Continentals posted a 61-55 non-conference win against the Union College Dutchwomen at Union's Viniar Athletic Center on Thursday night.

Aldridge scored 13 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter alone and was 9 of 13 from the floor overall. She also led the team with four assists and three steals.

Hamilton's Lauren Getman '18, who scored a career-high 28 points in Monday's win at Utica College, recorded her sixth double-double for the Continentals with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Caroline Barrett '17 went 8-for-8 at the free throw line and finished with 11 points. Halie Serbent '19 chipped in eight points and Samantha Srinivasan '18 pulled down seven boards.

Hamilton (2-3 overall) enjoyed a 39-30 advantage on the glass and has outrebounded all five of its opponents. The Continentals own a plus-8.6 rebound margin per game. Hamilton missed just one of its 15 attempts at the line (93.3 percent).

Nicole Conley dropped in 12 points and Erin Lyons was credited with three steals before she fouled out for Union (2-2). Abby Katz contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. The Dutchwomen were just 3 of 22 (13.6 percent) from 3-point range. Union's first three opponents averaged just 46.0 points per game and shot 29.8 percent from the field.

The Dutchwomen were 2 of 15 shooting in the second quarter as the Continentals took the lead for good. A 13-3 Hamilton run spanned the second and third quarters and turned a 17-17 tie into a 30-20 cushion for the Continentals. Aldridge started the spurt with a free throw with 4:00 left in the second and added a jumper and a 3-point play. Carly O'Hern '20 made a layup with 1:06 remaining for a 25-17 Hamilton lead. Jenni Barra nailed a shot from beyond the arc for the Dutchwomen 40 seconds into the third but Serbent countered with a jumper and Barrett buried a 3-pointer with 6:59 to go in the quarter.

Union cut its deficit to four at 36-32 at the end of the third quarter and pulled to within one on a Conley 3-pointer 50 seconds into the fourth. The Dutchwomen didn't get any closer as Aldridge made two baskets within the next 30 seconds and moved the lead back to five.

The Continentals were clinging to a 45-43 edge with 6:23 left when they took control with an 8-0 run for a 53-43 cushion with 3:08 remaining. Aldridge started and finished the spurt with layups, and Serbent and Srinivasan added buckets.

Union responded with a 9-2 run and after Juliauna Dunlop made two free throws with 35 seconds to go, the Dutchwomen were back to within 55-52. Barrett was fouled, made both free throws and Hamilton made it at least a two-possession game the rest of the way. The Continentals went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe in the last minute of the game. Hamilton was 8 of 13 from the floor in the fourth quarter.

The Continentals host Bard College for another non-conference game on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.
