Box Score The Hamilton College women's basketball team pulled away from a tight game to win for the first time this season, beating host Utica College 64-46 Monday night at Utica's Clark Athletic Center.
The Continentals (1-3 overall) outscored the host Pioneers 27-15 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Lauren Getman '18 poured in a career-best 28 points -- making 12 of her 16 shots -- to lead Hamilton. Samantha Srinivasan '18 added nine points and pulled down a personal-high 11 rebounds.
Hamilton's defense held Utica (1-3) to 25 percent from the floor, as the Pioneers made just 13 of their 52 shots.
The hosts pulled to within three points three times in the final period, cutting the Continental lead to 41-38 with 7:24 left. Hamilton took control, limiting the Pioneers to one basket over the next six and a half minutes. The Continentals forced three turnovers down the stretch and limited Utica to one-for-five shooting, pushing their lead as high as 18 points.
Getman scored 17 second-half points as Hamilton turned a two-point lead at intermission into a 38-22 rout in the final 20 minutes.
Mackenzie Aldridge '20 finished with seven points, four assists and three steals and Caroline Barrett '17 led Hamilton with a season-high seven assists.
The Pioneers were led by Ashley Mayo, who scored 20 points. Ashelyne Babb added nine points and eight rebounds.
Hamilton outrebounded the Pioneers 45-31 with Getman collecting nine and Kate Bushell '17 pulling down six -- one short of her career high -- off the bench.
The Continentals scored 10 of the game's first 12 points (Getman connected on a pair of baskets and Srinivasan added three free throws) before Utica closed to within a point with 1:13 left in the opening quarter.
The Pioneers stayed within five points of the lead for the rest of the half and took their only lead with 67 seconds left when Emily Pinckney converted a pair of free throws. Carly O'Hern '20 put Hamilton back ahead to stay with a three-point basket 13 seconds later.
Hamilton now owns a 28-11 lead in the all-time series, claiming 10 of the last 11 meetings (including five straight).
Monday's game kicked off a stretch of four non-conference games in a seven-day span for the Continentals. They're back in action Thursday, playing a 7 p.m. game at Union College.
