Women's hockey edged by Williams goal in 1-0 loss

Box Score

The Hamilton College women's hockey team lost 1-0 to visiting Williams College Sunday afternoon in a NESCAC game at Russell Sage Rink. The Continentals and Ephs both emerge from the season-opening series 1-1-0 after splitting the weekend contests.

The Continentals outshot the visitors 24-21 – including a 9-6 advantage in the third period – but Williams goaltender Christina Cleroux stopped all nine shots she faced to complete the shutout.

Williams scored the game's only goal late in the second period when Olivia Stokes pushed the puck past Hamilton's Sam Walther '18. Emily Krueger received a pass from Chelsey Stevenson and took a shot that wound up to Walther's right, just outside the post where Stokes directed it into the net.

Walther made 20 saves and Cleroux finished with 24.

The Continentals continue their three-game season-opening homestand Tuesday, hosting undefeated Morrisville State College in a 1 p.m. game. Tuesday's non-league contest will be Hamilton's last action at Russell Sage Rink for 58 days.
