Kirstin Mapes

Kirstin Mapes joined Hamilton College’s softball staff as an assistant coach in August 2021 following a successful playing career at fellow NESCAC member Williams College. She helps Head Coach Stephanie Hartquist with all aspects of the program.

Mapes was the 2021 NESCAC Softball Player of the Year and a three-time all-conference honoree, including the first team as a junior and senior. She was named conference player of the week twice and pitcher of the week on two occasions. She was an all-region pick by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association three times.

Mapes, who is from Corona, Calif., was a standout performer in the circle and at the plate. She struck out 129 batters in 171.1 career innings pitched and posted a 2.70 earned run average with a 21-2 record. She completed 14 of the 29 games she started, tossed five shutouts and earned one save. Mapes hit .343 with a .401 on-base percentage and .590 slugging percentage in 113 games. She finished her career with 113 hits including 20 home runs and 17 doubles, scored 54 runs and drove in 80.

Mapes helped Williams win 128 games, two NESCAC titles, three NCAA regionals and two NCAA super regionals. When she was a junior the Ephs played in the eight-team NCAA Division III championship in Tyler, Texas. Williams was also one of the final eight teams playing in the 2017 NCAA championship in Oklahoma City.

Mapes has been a coach mentor in the Natasha Watley Foundation in Los Angeles. She coached a 15U softball team with players who had a wide range of skill levels through a full summer league. She planned daily practices, weekly game plans and a beginner pitching curriculum. Mapes was the softball program’s representative for Williams’ National Women in Sports Day.

Mapes was a Dean’s List student at Williams. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in political theory.
