Stephen Castriota joined the Hamilton men's hockey coaching staff as the assistant coach in August 2022. He was previously the associate head men’s hockey coach at SUNY Cortland.
Castriota had served on the Cortland coaching staff since 2018 and was promoted to associate head coach in April 2022. He was part of the 2021-22 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Coaching Staff of the Year after the Red Dragons went 15-10-2 overall and 9-5-2 in the conference, and advanced to the SUNYAC semifinals. Cortland was 12-12-1 overall in 2019-20 with Castriota.
Castriota has been a skills coach with the Salt City Prospects in Syracuse since 2019. Before his time at Cortland, Castriota was head coach of the Long Island Royals 16 & Under AAA and assistant coach of the Long Island Royals 15 Pure AAA (2017-18). The Royals 15 Pure AAA were the 2018 Long Island Hockey League champions and a 2018 Atlantic Youth Hockey League semifinalist, and qualified for the 2018 New York state tournament.
Castriota was an assistant coach with the New York Bobcats of the Eastern Hockey League (2017-18) and an assistant with the Long Island Junior Royals (2015-17). The Royals were the 2016-17 North American 3 Atlantic Hockey League champions. He also served as head coach of Pro Ambitions Hockey Inc. in Westwood, Mass. (2015-19).
The Bellport, N.Y., native finished his 101-game collegiate career with 38 goals and 29 assists for SUNY Fredonia. He led the SUNYAC with four short-handed goals in 2014-15 and topped the conference again with three short-handed tallies in 2013-14. He helped lead the Blue Devils to three postseason appearances including the 2012 SUNYAC semifinals.
Castriota received a bachelor’s degree in business administration – management, and completed his master’s degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland.
