Adam Stockwell

Adam Stockwell was named Hamilton College's head men's basketball coach in July 2011. Stockwell is just the fourth person to hold that title since 1951. In 2024-25 he guided the Continentals to a 20-7 record, an NCAA championship at-large bid, and an eighth straight NESCAC postseason appearance. Hank Morgan '25 celebrated one of the most decorated seasons in team history with two all-America team honors and three player of the year awards, including the NESCAC. He also played in the Division III all-star game and was a finalist for the Jostens Trophy. Hamilton earned a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 12th consecutive year and six student-athletes made the NABC Honors Court.

Oswego State Head Coach (2009-11)

  • In 2010-11 guided the Lakers to a 24-5 record, a SUNYAC regular season title with a 17-1 record, and the second round of the NCAA championship
  • Named the 2011 NABC East District Coach of the Year, SUNYAC Coach of the Year and the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Upstate Coach of the Year
  • Coached a first team all-American and SUNYAC Player of the Year


Clarkson Head Coach (2004-09)

  • Guided the Golden Knights to three straight postseason appearances for the first time in program history
  • In 2007-08 Clarkson upset the top two seeds in the Liberty League tournament, captured its first league championship and earned the first NCAA tournament bid in team history
  • Stockwell and his assistants were named the league's 2008 Coaching Staff of the Year
  • Made the league championship semifinals again in 2009
  • Directed the Golden Knights to the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Region championship

Student-Athlete at Le Moyne

  • Inducted into Le Moyne College's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007
  • Scored 1,458 points at Division II Le Moyne from 1992 to 1996 and as of 2011 was still 10th on the Dolphins' all-time scoring list
  • When he was a team captain in 1995-96, he averaged 21.1 points per game as Le Moyne tied the record for the best season in program history at 24-6, won the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tournament and played in the NCAA tournament
  • In 1996 made the all-Northeast Region team, the all-NECC first team and the academic all-district team


Other Information

  • Played professional men's basketball in Northern Ireland's St. Gall's Basketball Association in 1996-97
  • Stockwell and his father, James, are the only father and son in the history of New York high school basketball that have scored 2,000 or more career points apiece
  • Stockwell played for Belleville-Henderson High School and grew up in Ellisburg
  • James played at Union Academy of Belleville for former Hamilton Head Coach Tom Murphy when that team set a national record with 83 straight wins
  • Graduated from Le Moyne with a degree in economics and earned his master's degree in business administration from Canisius
  • He and his wife Emily have a daughter, Katherine (21), and a son, Jameson (18)
