Dave Murray

Dave Murray joined Hamilton College as the Mary Jayne Comey and Mac Bristol '43 Head Football Coach in May 2014. He coached three all-NESCAC team selections, including one first team pick on special teams, in 2022. Seventeen student-athletes earned 2022 NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team honors. Murray's head coaching career spans 32 seasons at four different schools. After the 2019 season, he was 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches in career wins and tied for 49th all-time in Division III history.

Hamilton Head Coach (2014-present)

  • Players have collected 34 all-NESCAC team honors, including 18 on the first team
  • Four athletes have made the D3football.com all-region team
  • Had a finalist for the 2019 Fred Mitchell Outstanding Placekicker Award
  • Coached one player to a spot on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North All-Star Team
  • One student-athlete voted to the 2015 Academic All-America Division III Football Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
  • 2019 victory against Amherst was Hamilton's first against the Mammoths since 1992
  • 2015 win at Williams was the Continentals' first against the Ephs since 1996


Other Coaching Experience

  • Head coach at Alfred University (1998-2013) where he guided the Saxons to the postseason every year from 2004 through 2013, including NCAA Division III championship appearances in 2009 and 2010
  • Selected the Empire 8 Coach of the Year three times
  • In 2010 Alfred finished 10-3 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals
  • In 2013 the Saxons finished the season with a win against SUNY Cortland in the 2013 ECAC Division III North Central Bowl Championship game
  • At Alfred, coached six Empire 8 players of the year and six Empire 8 rookies of the year, two ECAC Northwest players of the year, and six first team all-Americans
  • Head coach at Lebanon Valley College (1997)
  • Head coach at SUNY Cortland (1990-96) where he took the Red Dragons to the NCAA playoffs in his first year
  • Assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Cortland (1987-89)
