Giovanna Fasanello

Giovanna Fasanello joined the Hamilton College field hockey staff as an assistant coach in August 2020 after serving as an assistant at Wesleyan University since 2018. She coached a Wesleyan athlete to all-region and all-NESCAC team honors in 2019.

Fasanello is a club coach with AIM Field Hockey in Newtown, Conn., and the Williamsville Stampede in western New York. She attended several camps and clinics as well as a number of recruiting events during her time at Wesleyan.

Fasanello started her collegiate playing career at Division I Central Michigan University where she appeared in all but one game and made eight starts at midfield in 2014. She was credited with two assists and helped Central Michigan to its first Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season title since 2002 and the No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament for the first time in program history.

Fasanello went on to play at SUNY Geneseo from 2015 to 2017. Despite playing just three years with the Knights, she is tied for third place on the team's all-time list in career points, third in career goals and fifth in career assists. She is one of four Geneseo players with three assists in one contest and was a two-time team captain. She made the all-region first team as a forward and was a three-time member of the all-SUNYAC team, including a first team selection in 2016 and 2017. As a junior she helped lead the Knights to a SUNYAC tournament title and their second NCAA championship appearance. She was named the Most Valuable Player of that conference tournament and picked up the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week award for her performance in the event.

Fasanello competed with USA Field Hockey from 2012 to 2014 as she trained with Futures Elite and Futures Level 1. She played in the 2014 Futures Elite Championship and the 2012 U16 National Futures Championship. In 2013 she was part of a team that won a gold medal at the U19 National Futures Championship, and she earned a silver medal at the 2012 AAU Junior Olympics. Her team received the 2012 Barbara Longstreth Award for teams that exemplify good sportsmanship.

The Clarence, N.Y., native received her bachelor's degree in psychology with a legal studies minor from Geneseo. Fasanello recently completed her master's degree in liberal arts and sciences from Wesleyan.
