Biography

Honored with the Jack B. Riffle Award at the 2018 Jack B. Riffle Senior Varsity Athlete Celebration. The Riffle Awards have been presented annually since 1987 to the top male and female athlete in Hamilton's senior class. Riffle graduated from Hamilton in 1950 and passed away on Dec. 13, 1986. A group of Riffle's friends and associates established a memorial fund in his name because of his deep interest in Hamilton athletics. 

2017-18: Served as an alternate captain during his senior season... Started 14 of 25 games... Missed eight games due to injury... Led Division III in goals-against average (1.28) and save percentage (.954), both program records... Tied for second in Division III with four shutouts... Made 30 saves in a 3-0 win at No. 14/RV Colby on Jan. 5... Made 25 saves and had an assist in a 2-0 win against Tufts on Feb. 11... Made 27 saves in a 1-0 win at Middlebury on Feb. 17... Received NESCAC Player of the Week honors on Feb. 19... Part of a defensive unit that ranked second in Division III in scoring defense, holding their opponents to 1.68 goals per game... Finished the season with 351 saves in 796+ minutes... Completed his career with 10 shutouts and a 39-16-12 record... Holds program records in career goals-against average (1.67) and career save percentage (.944)... Ranks fourth on the program's all-time list with 1,901 saves... Named to the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team... Earned Academic All-District honors... Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team... Received All-NESCAC Second Team honors... Selected as a third team All-American... Signed an amateur tryout contract with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) on March 15.

2016-17: Started 26 of 29 games as a junior... Ranked third in Division III with a .941 save percentage... Ranked sixth in Division III with a 1.78 goals-against average...Made 45 saves in a 4-1 win at No. 14/RV Trinity on Dec. 2... Received NESCAC Player of the Week honors on Dec. 5... Made 43 saves in a 2-2 draw against No. 14/15 Trinity on Jan. 27... Recorded his first collegiate assist and made 23 stops in a 5-1 win over Williams on Feb. 18... Made 34 saves in a 3-1 win over No. 4/5 SUNY Oswego in the first round of the NCAA Championship... Named to the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team... Earned Academic All-District honors... Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team... Selected as the NESCAC Player of the Year... Selected as a first team All-American... Received the Sid Watson Award as the AHCA Division III Men's Hockey Player of the Year.

2015-16: Started 22 of 25 games during his sophomore season... Ranked fifth in Division III with a .943 save percentage... Ranked ninth in Division III with a 1.74 goals-against average... Recorded three shutouts... Made 42 saves in a 1-0 win over No. 14/13 Williams on Dec. 12... Named to the D3hockey.com Team of the Week on Dec. 15... Made 30 saves in a 2-2 draw at No. 5/6 Williams on Feb. 21... Named to the NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team... Received All-NESCAC First Team honors.

2014-15: Made five starts as a first year... Registered 31 saves in his first collegiate shutout on Nov. 21 in a 4-0 win at Wesleyan... Made 46 saves in a 1-1 draw at No. 8 Trinity on Nov. 22... Received NESCAC Player of the Week honors on Feb. 24... Finished the season with 134 saves in 267+ minutes... Led the team with a .944 save percentage and 1.80 goals-against average.

Personal: Majors in environmental studies... Minors in geosciences... Evan attended Nelson High School... He played for the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots (OJHL).... Evan is the son of Brian and Theresa Buitenhuis.
