MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Hamilton College's
Charlie Sternberg '27 won the 'C' singles flight title at the 2026 Middlebury College Men's Tennis Invitational, which was played on Sept. 12 and 13.
Sternberg, who has 22 career singles wins with the Continentals, started things off with a straight-set victory against Bates College's Will Marshall. He rallied to defeat Middlebury's Henry Groves in the quarterfinals, including 11-9 in a thrilling third set super-tiebreaker.
After dropping the first set in his semifinal against Middlebury's Justin Zhou, Sternberg posted a convincing 6-1 result in the second set and advanced to the final by a 10-3 decision in the super-tiebreaker. He knocked off Bates' Jack Kirby in the final, coming from behind again after dropping the first set for the third straight match.
Stuart Konezny '30 reached the 'A' singles flight semifinals in his first collegiate competition. Konezny outlasted Bates' Tair Sarmanov in three sets and took down Skidmore College's Ege Topbas in a quarterfinal in straight sets. Konezny and
Martin Dimitrov '30 were winners in their 'A' flight doubles round of 16 match against a Bates pairing.
Filip Moller '29 and
Alexei Katelevsky '29 advanced to the semifinals in the top flight. The duo prevailed against Middlebury's Nathan Hernandez and Andrew Yim in the first round and against Bates' Sarmanov and Phillippe Kosyagin in the quarters.
Other winners included
Lleyton Mendieta '28 and
Mohammed Zahaan Siddiqui '30 in the first round of 'A' flight singles, and
Akshat Dhull '29 in the first round of 'B' flight singles.
Hamilton competes in the Boston University Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20.
